"Drop the idea that you are Atlas carrying the world on your
shoulders. The world would go on even without you. Don't take yourself so
seriously.

In the book Calm Energy by Robert E. Thayer, PH.D. he writes that we think our moods are controlled by events and circumstances. But, the same circumstances don't create the same mood each time, "...it is closely related to how much sleep we had, how healthy we are, when and what we last ate, and what kind of exercise we had lately. Even the time of day is important to our moods." Add to that hormones, blood sugar levels, muscle tension and other physiological reactions. Biological conditions seem to be the most probable underpining of those mood changes. "Events and circumstances do influence mood, but they happen on top of a biological edifice that gives them greater or lesser importance." He goes on to write that most of us try to self-regulate our moods through eating, alochol, etc. without even being aware of what we are doing. I'll have to wait until I am further into the book to find out how to regulate them on purpose.

I have been pushing myself hard over the past few weeks, so yesterday I decided to work on a crossword puzzle for awhile. I even started researching answers I didn't know on the internet. The puzzle gave me a chance to let go and relax for a bit.

I've rarely heard the beginning of this quote, usually just the end. But, I read the whole thing yesterday and it really made me think.

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of humankind as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or it is nothing at all." -Helen Keller

I read it in a fun book by David Silberkleit called a new adventure every day. It has fun ideas like give your appliances names, try a new breakfast cereal, talk to someone in line, experiment with the amount of sleep you need, make something and sell it at a craft bazaar, and have an adventure in the rain. Visit Every Day Adventure to sign up for his newsletter which will send you one adventure a day. His idea is that it is the approach to life, not necessarily what you do that makes an adventure. As SARK says, "Live Juicy."

If you are having trouble tracking time or keeping all the things you have to do straight, David Allen has an excellent workflow system. You can find the information at: Getting Things Done. The Workflow Diagram will help you get through all your piles and turn them into actions. If you want to use his system with Outlook, here is a great site for directions: GTD with Outlook. His new book Ready for Anything will be released in September, but you can pre-order it from Amazon.com.

I'm reading an informative new book called The Other 90% -How to unlock your vast untapped potential for leadership and life by Robert K. Cooper. The 4 keystones are: trust, energy, farsightedness and nerve. So how can you trust more? Some of his ideas are: don't be afraid to be an original, remember no one has to lose for you to win, quit comparing, live your values, know the values of others, honor the greatness in others, and use the brain, the gut and the heart in decision-making.

Vacation Bible School is now over. I was co-director for the first time, so it was a learning experience. Also rewarding to see all those kids become excited over coming to church.

With quite a few projects all in the major stages at the same time I am re-learning the importance of breaks. I find myself completely emptied of energy by early evening if I don't stop for a bit. Today I did a bit of reading and watched a movie to unwind. This evening I gave myself a pedicure while I watched Antwone Fisher.

I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July!. We enjoyed time with family and friends, watched and set off fireworks, caught lightning bugs and I took time to read a bit.
