Are you remembering the Gifts of Waiting, from
our November issue? Since it is the Christmas Season I am sure
you will need to do quite a bit of waiting. You can read that
newsletter at my website. The address is at the end of the newsletter.
Making this a Merry Holiday Season
Since becoming adults Christmas has seemed less
fun. Every year I try to remember some of the fun of December
by making an advent chain with the kids. We cut strips of red
and green construction paper. On each slip of paper, we write
the day of advent it is and something to do on that day. To make
the chain we start at Christmas then loop Christmas Eve around
it and staple, adding each of the days. Here is our advent chain
1st Sunday in Advent. Light a candle on the
advent wreath. Read the Christmas story in Luke.
Donate clothing to goodwill.
Pray for all people.
Make cards for a nursing home.
Set up the nativity scene.
Read a Christmas book.
Send Christmas cards to our pastors.
2nd Sunday in Advent. Light candle. Pray for
Watch our DVD of ďItís a Wonderful LifeĒ.
Check to make sure everyone has Christmas clothes.
Call a friend.
Bake Christmas cookies with our family.
3rd Sunday in Advent. Light candle. Decorate
Donate canned goods to the local mission.
Go Christmas caroling.
Christmas party for the kids.
Pray for the people who have sent you Christmas cards.
Take a drive to look at the Christmas lights.
Let the kids decorate their rooms.
No school! Have hot chocolate and marshmallows.
Read the Christmas story. Have a silent night where you
turn off the lights and sit in silence while watching the Christmas
What do you want to do this holiday season? Plan
it so it happens. Make an advent chain or advent calendar full
of things to look forward to.

Self-Care Tips for December:
Have your presents wrapped at a store if you donít
Buy a fresh pine wreath to enjoy the smell
Christmas shop by catalog or the internet
Spend an hour on the couch under a blanket reading
you don't enjoy getting up and working and finishing your work
and sitting down to a meal with family or friends, then the chances
are you're not going to be happy. If someone bases his or
her happiness or unhappiness on major events like a great new
job, huge amounts of money, a flawlessly happy marriage or a trip
to Paris, that person isn't going to be happy much of the time.
If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast,
flowers in the yard, a drink or a nap, then we are more likely
to live with quite a bit of happiness.
Relationship Ideas for December:
See the Nutcracker with your family
Visit a church that has a Handelís Messiah sing
Hang mistletoe and remember to use it
Christmas shop with a friend
our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends.

I encourage you this month to live joyful, to
regain your childhood enthusiasm and to create a holiday you and
your family with love.
